Lanzheron

Through the story of a family outing on the tram, Ladyzhensky journeys through his mental geography of Odessa, passing the Opera Theater and Lanzheron, the beach. He recalls returning home “full of impressions,” which he illustrates in this poetic, humorous, and meandering narrative. Directly addressing Lanzheron and the Black Sea, he says: “Perhaps, now is the time to take me forever? Eh? Perhaps we, who have not seen each other for such a long time, but love each other so strongly, ought to become engaged? It cannot matter that I am somewhere far away from you, Lanzheron, can it? I am always with you, I am nearby.”
